Read More For many years the company was successful growing steadily and adding a manufacturing facility for high quality timber framed windows and doors. During the first decade of this century the business continued to be profitable focussing on the Decent Homes refurbishment programme for social housing and the development of its manufacturing arm.

Unfortunately, From 2009 several factors began to impact notably the austerity measures applied to local government which affected the building operation and the impact of eastern European competition on the manufacturing facility. As rates were cut, margins dramatically reduced and profitability was significantly affected which ultimately lead to losses despite turnover levels being maintained. The inevitable consequence of all this was that in spite of a healthy balance sheet the business ran out of cash.

In March 2014 the company entered an arrangement with its creditors. While the assets of the business were substantial they were property related and therefore it was difficult to release the cash to satisfy the creditors. Throughout the process the Directors were adamant that all creditors would eventually be paid in full and that the company would not seek to pay a reduced amount.

The arrangement was agreed in May 2014 and the recovery plan commenced. Several key strategic decisions were made. The now uncompetitive manufacturing facility was closed with a number of redundancies made and the loss of a third of the annual turnover. The business became focussed on margin rather than turnover while retaining the standards of quality and professionalism that had created our reputation. It was also recognised the need for diversification, new markets and to work directly for public procurement bodies as well as the existing main contractor customers.

Initially the changes (especially the closing of the manufacturing arm) had a further impact on profitability peaking in June 2014 but from then onwards the losses were reduced. New customers and work streams begin to develop and 2015 recorded a record performance both in terms of turnover and profitability. The lost turnover was replaced and substantially increased but with far better margins. The management team was strengthened and developed and the improved performance continued into the early part of 2016.

In early June 2016 the company was able to repay all creditors in full as promised.

The business now sits in a healthy and financially stable position to continue to progress and develop.”
